Our Irish Roots
The Story Behind Whiskey & Wildflowers’ Authentic Irish Folk Music
Whiskey & Wildflowers bring the heart of Irish music to every stage.
Core Principles Behind Our Music
In Ireland, music isn't simply entertainment, it is living history, oral storytelling, and community. For singer and guitarist Dean Patrick O'Grady, those roots run deep. Having lived and performed in Ireland, Dean cut his teeth in the unamplified corners of traditional music pubs, learning firsthand how a room comes alive when acoustic strings, an open hearth, and a chorus of voices meet.
Paired with Katie Gittins’ driving fiddle reels and soaring viola melodies, Whiskey & Wildflowers was born out of a shared passion to keep that raw, fireside energy alive.

Inspired by the Greats
Our biggest musical inspiration begins and ends with The Dubliners. The gravel-and-gravel delivery of Ronnie Drew, the soaring emotional power of Luke Kelly, and the master fiddle work of John Sheahan set the benchmark for everything we do.
We take that timeless blueprint, driving acoustic rhythm, expressive strings, and two-part vocal harmonies and bring the authenticity of an unpolished, higho ctane session to modern stages.
Tradition, Lore & The Great SingAlong
Our repertoire bridges the gap between deep traditional balladry and the great anthems that turn a quiet room into a roaring chorus:
Authentic Trad & Storytelling: We dig into the rapid-fire rhythms and rebel spirit of songs like The Rocky Road to Dublin, the poignant, haunting echoes of The Auld Triangle, and the breathless, escalating speed of The Rattlin' Bog.
The Crowd Anthems: We celebrate the timeless pub classics that belong to the audience just as much as the band. When the opening bars of The Wild Rover, Molly Malone, or Whiskey in the Jar kick in, the whole room joins in the song.
Bringing the Craic to Yorkshire
You shouldn't have to catch a ferry across the Irish Sea to experience the spirit of a genuine Irish session. Whether we are playing a historic Yorkshire pub, a festival marquee, a wedding reception, or an open-air beer garden, our mission is simple: to deliver authentic Irish tunes, warm banter, and a stomping good night to communities across Yorkshire.
